      Finally, death has lost its sting for Christians now because of the fact that death has become a transition point from one mode of existence in God’s love to another, greater mode of existence in God’s love.  In this series, we’ll talk more about what happens when Christians die.  But for now let us  affirm and remind ourselves of the fact that when we die, our spirits go to be with God.  He’s turned the curse of death on its head.  In Revelation 14, John heard a voice that said, “Write, ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!’”  And Paul, famously wrote in Philippians 1:21-23:

        21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose. 23 But I am hard-pressed from both directions, having the desire to depart and be with Christ, for that is very much better;

Physical life is indeed a gift from God, to be enjoyed and stewarded to his glory.  And death is indeed our enemy, at which we rightly grieve and get angry.  Yet in the end, death is the Christian’s gateway to an existence that is indeed “very much better.”
